Maca may be beneficial in reducing menopausal symptoms without changing serum hormone levels, making it a safer option than hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The mechanisms behind this have not been fully elucidated yet.

Males can also benefit from maca. One study found that seminal fluid and sperm count increased following 4 months of oral administration of maca. Maca is also a safer option than HRT or viagra for sexual dysfunction in males.
